Evaluate interpersonal and written communications teq. (D1)

Evaluating interpersonal and written communication skills.

In this part of the assignment I was asked to "evaluate interpersonal and written communication skills" and I did that by evaluating the presentation of my fellow class mate. The way that I evaluated his presentation is by filling out the "peer observation sheet" and as you can see that the image above shows six points that need to be covered correctly for this presentation to be a success.
First evaluation of a presentation:
Six main points:

  • Adequate content.
  • Adequate presentation.
  • Clear and suitable speech.
  • Keeping to the subject.
  • Presentation visual style.
  • Body language.
Things he got right:
Firstly I think that he was very confident when he was making any statements which need to be made to the audience and that helped him engage with the audience. Secondly he gave good eye contact to each and every one of the audience member, which kept the audience interested in what he was saying to them. And finally, the layout of the power point was consistent throughout the presentation, which maintained the attention of the audience.

Things he got wrong.
Firstly, he made a couple of spelling mistakes which could easily have been avoided just by reviewing his work. Secondly, when he was delivering his presentation sometimes he was looking and reading from the computer monitor, he couldn’t remember what to say to the audience. Finally, there were no pictures; it's not a major issue but it made the presentation a bit dull.

Second evaluation of a presentation:

Reviewing a presentation about “how we can more effectively communicate”

Things he got right:
Firstly, at the start of the presentation he introduces what he is going to talk about, which makes it easier for the audience to keep with the presentation. Secondly, when stating important points he repeated them twice, so the audience can easily remember them. Finally, he used humour to capture the attention of the audience, before he made an important point about the presentation.
Things he got wrong:
Firstly I think that the use of his hands at times was a bit too much and it tends to distract and annoy the audience. Secondly, at times it looked like he was trying too hard to get the audience really exciting about what he was saying. Finally, he had a habit of going off the topic, when he was trying to explain something.

  1. This just falls short of the D1 criterion - "evaluate interpersonal and written comms". Your evaluation is a little superficial. You could have communicated a more sophisticated evaluation by being clearer about how the presenters' behaviour effected the qulaity of their work (particularly with relation to written aspects). You might also have described, in detail, ways in which they might have improved their work.
